Pebbled, Cabled and Easy! Not Another Flood Please!

Easy Keeper Skirt in Black Motif- by Tracy Reese - Anthro Orig $138 Sale $80 Red Tag $60 - Dec 2010
Cabled Pathways Pullover - by Moth - Anthro Orig $128 Sale $70 Red Tag $52 - Dec 2010

Brass Locket Bouquet with Earrings - Esty Shop Mia Sophia $32 - May 2009

As most of you know, I live in the Great Central Valley of California. The Southern end of the valley where Bakersfield is located, is know as the San Joaquin Basin. Millions of years ago this was an inland sea, and now a rich source of oil and agriculture.

Our average yearly rainfall is about 5 inches. In the last 3 weeks we had 5 inches of rain. The subdivision known as Campus Park 2 blocks to the North of mine is flooded.

Kern River Canyon Residents have this to deal with.  The road has been closed for a week. More rain is predicted starting tonight.

My heart goes out to my fellow bloggers and those on the East Coast who are suffering much of the same in the form of the White stuff.

On with my happy-go-lucky outfit poses.  Today's were sparked by my BF making fun.

I have included the Catalog links so you can check often for Pop Backs on just about everything I am wearing.
by Moth - Nov Catalog - style # 19264878
(needs a T shirt underneath - itchy wool - runs big)

by Tracy Reese - Sept Catalog -  style # 19131820
(TTS for me - not for an hour glass figure - you can size up then fold or belt over the waist band as suggested by Jamie of Thrifty Threads)

by Miss Albright - Sept Catalog - style # 18360024
(runs TTS - if wide size up)

The 25% off Red Tag prices are in effect until Jan 3rd. Although I suspect you won't find Pop Backs for at least another week or more on the sweater and skirt since they recently went on sale.  I suggest adding these items to your Wish List even if the size isn't correct.  Once the January Catalog overwrites September that is the only way you will be able to check for Pop Backs on the skirt and boots.

For reviews : copy paste this address into your browser and replace the Orange highlight with the items style number I have given above.  I could set this up for you, but with the link and a style number  you have power to check reviews for any Anthro item back to Summer 2009. Or just Google the Anthro item name.

I'm wearing the Cabled Pathways Pullover in my normal size Small.  The sweater is itchy and very warm, so I layered a gold T shirt underneath in case I can't take the wool inferno.
Last time I was at my Mothers house I admired the long necklace. My Mother will give me anything if I ask.  And even when I don't.  And then as Mothers will often do - she will complain about giving it to me as she runs me from her bedroom.  She loves me.

I enlarged the photo of the boots, because I know a few Readers are trying to score a pair. When I checked at 11 am there was a size 8 available in the Sale Section.

Every time I wear these boots they change color.  I call them Chameleon boots. They go with everything.

I added the Purple tights for a knock out twist.  The shock of color works because they don't show much between the boots and skirt hem. The Pale Purple in the skirt, and the Purple jewelry ties the tights into the outfit.  Besides, Gold and Purple are one of my favorite color combinations.

What are your favorite Color Combinations?

If you have any questions about the specific items I am wearing please feel free to shoot me an email.

A Red Tag Pinafore, a Snowscape, a Laptop, and a Sale Hangover!

In no particular order!

But first, the awesome and always fabulous Collette of "Statements In Fashion" is hosting a giveaway for a 50$ Forever 21 Gift Certificate.  Now is the time for me and possibly you to give Forever 21 a try.  Head over to Statements in Fashion HERE.

Ahhhhhh!  The Pinafore Pullover by Rosie Neira.  I got lucky on this one.

The morning of my Birthday I sat down at my Laptop (which was still functioning-more about that later) and hit the Antho eCatalogs.  What did I find there?  Three Pinafore Pullovers (sold out at full price) available in Pop Back. I immediately sent a text to Heidi D. We both scored.

Pinafore Pullover - by Rosie Neira - Anthro Orig $168 Sale $100 Red Tag $75 - Dec 2010
Snowscape Tank - by Corey Lynn Calter - Anthro Orig $148 Sale $70 - Jan 2009
Honor Guard Booties - by Messeca - Anthro $168 - Dec 2010
Quilted Patent Iris Bag in Cream - by Orla Kiely AW10 - Yoox Orig $335 Sale $170 FS - Dec 2010
But the most miraculous news is, the sweaters were not only on sale, but RED TAGGED.  Yippee!

A few weeks ago I saw Roxy of Effortless Anthropologie wearing the Pinafore Pullover in such a fabulous way that I had to have the sweater. It was then I started checking the catalog regularly for Pop Backs. Roxy had taken the Snowscape Tank and layered the Pinafore Pullover over it so only the neckline of the tank was visible.  The effect is almost seamless.  I love this tank, but have never been able to use it in a way that showed off the fabulous detail work on the neckline.  Thank you for the incredible idea Roxy.

Pinafore Pullover - by Rosie Neira - Anthro Orig $168 Sale $100 Red Tag $75 - Dec 2010
I weaved an Idra pin through the back to pull the sweater in a bit.  I could have used an XS in this sweater.

Pinafore Pullover - by Rosie Neira - Anthro Orig $168 Sale $100 Red Tag $75 - Dec 2010
Snowscape Tank - by Corey Lynn Calter - Anthro Orig $148 Sale $70 - Jan 2009

Quilted Patent Iris Bag in Cream - by Orla Kiely AW10 - Yoox Orig $335 Sale $170 FS - Dec 2010

As you can see the effect created by layering the Tank under the sweater is stunning.  No jewelry needed!  Unless you want to consider by new Orla Kiely Quilted Patent Iris Bag AW10 as jewelry.  A little Happy Birthday Present!  To me!  From me!

Honor Guard Booties - by Messeca - Anthro $168 - Dec 2010
Quilted Patent Iris Bag in Cream - by Orla Kiely AW10 - Yoox Orig $335 Sale $170 FS - Dec 2010
I rounded this outfit up with Messeca's Honor Guard Booties available HERE.  But selling out fast.

I really hauled on the RED TAG Sale.  I'm not going to review these items now, but you can email me at lauramartinsemail@yahoo.com and ask me anything about these items. Here is the damage.

This entire Anthro Outfit.
Which Includes the Fisherman's Companion Sweatercoat which was cancelled online, but I was able to order from a store. The Attention To Detail Dress in Taupe available HERE. The Tapestry Tights. And the Berry Stitched Boots I already have. I am wearing the outfit with a different coat in the photo.

The Easy Keeper Skirt in Orange Motif along with the Piece-A-Plenty /Cardi (FULL PRICE) that I did not like on me at all.  The raglin sleeves were unflattering. So it will be returned.

I also picked up Anthro's Haviland Sweatercoat from 3 years ago.  This was my third attempt to win a bid for this sweatercoat on eBay over the last 2 years.  I used a sniping service free trial and won. Yippee!

The Cabled Pullover in Gold by Moth available in Pop Backs HERE. To go with the Easy Keeper Skirt in Black Motif available in Pop Backs HERE.   And hopefully I will love Miss Albrights Loose Reins Boots (sold out online- but available in stores) with this outfit.

The Blue Period Slip-ons by Everybody. Returned. Available HERE at full price.  I normally wear an 8 and ordered a 39. They were at least a half size too big.  Great quality and super comfortable, but a little granny looking for my taste.  Although I loved them with the Roadway Tights.

Roadway Tights - by Eloise - Anthro Orig $18 Sale $10 - Dec 2010
Blue Period Slip-Ons - by Everybody - Anthro $178 - Dec 2010
The Antique Row Cuff (25% off) looked like a big piece of poo to me.  So it is headed back today.

The From The Poles Jacket in Both Green and Purple. Both were a size Small, but the Green was huge.  So that will go back.

The Trickle Down Top in Green.  I loved it in Blue.

Miss Albrights Prized Rose Peep Toes were a huge disappointment.  TTS and comfortable, but the pair I received were poorly made.

And last but not least the Spruce Corset Belt.

Now for some disappointing news.  My Laptop is protesting over-use by refusing to start-up.  It is however under warranty, so on it's way to Texas today.  The timeline for repair is unknown.  My son's PC is located in his bedroom and not easy for me to get to.  So Posting and Commenting will be sporadic at best.  My iPhone needs to be updated, so it's very slow.

But I promise I will do my best.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous Holiday and finding some wonderful Anthro stuff.

APB! Loose Reins Boots - Found - Thank you LC of Bella Seattle!

I must have these for my Birthday.  And LC got me the connection.
If anyone sees these boots please comment or email with store number to lauramartinsemail@yahoo.com.
Loose Reins Boots - by Miss Albright - style #18359554 - Prefer Size 8, can wear 8.5

I stayed up all night.  I had my Wish List loaded with only the Loose Reins Boots.  There were only 3 pairs in size 8.  No 8.5.  I guess I have a slow trigger finger.  The nearest store is 2 hours away and they don't have shoes. The next store is a good 4 hours in LA traffic.

If anyone sees these boots please comment or email at lauramartinsemail@yahoo.com with the store name and number.  If you can put them on hold even better.  I am still home sick so I will be watching my email all day. I would be forever grateful.

PS:  Anthro is claiming the search system is down and will not search until tomorrow.  I can't blame them.

Happy Birthday To You, Crazy Anthro Girl! My Very Happy B-Day Orla Kiely Bag!

Last Wednesday I woke up with a sore throat.  By Friday (9 days of vacation begins) I was full blown sick. Today's OOTD demanded rest and relaxation while wrapped in a cozy quilted Anthro robe...

Anthro's Cordova Hooded Robe - by Lilka - Gifted by BF Nov 2008
Pattern Book - by Orla Kiely - Amazon - Gifted by BF Dec 2010

...gazing adoringly at an early Birthday delivery.  Orla Kiely's Pattern.  Pamela of Ginger Girl (a fellow Orla enthusiast) identified my prized Orla from my post after seeing the bag in Pattern.

See my Post with the Wool Tapestry Bag HERE

She recommended this fascinating photo filled book about my favorite handbag designer. My BF got a big hug for the early Birthday present.  He knows how to bring on a smile.

Wool Tapestry Stem Print Leather Handbag Multi - by Orla Kiely AW08 - Orig $800 eBay $400 gently used - Apr 2009
Pattern chronicles the Irish born designers history in her own words. The book is filled with colorful, full page photography of textiles, sketches, and 2 decades of photo shoots. Much of the colorful photos come from her creative lookbooks, family home, London based studio, and her highly treasured collections.  I spent a few hours turning the pages and smiling as I recognized many familiar prints, handbags, clothing items, and housewares.

Shop Orla's Pattern Book at Amazon HERE.

Orla Kiely Flip Notes Book, a Sunday to-do list, and a delivery
A little package arrived from a certain store yesterday.  Can you spot what that something is in the photo?

My guy made the dreaded grocery shopping trip without me.  He returned with my favorite comfort foods and thoughtfully made Campbell's Cream of Tomato Soup (with milk) in large ceramic Christmas cups, afloat with Cheez-its!  Mm mm Good! Next on his get well menu were Mimosa's afloat with blackberries. Liquid ambrosia!  He didn't forget my favorite candy. Two large boxes of Willy Wonka Everlasting Gobstoppers.

As you can guess, most of my to-do list was forgotten. I did move my Internet Browser to Google Chrome, and sent this message to Anthropologie.

I'm hoping Anthro will come through on this with a December Catalog. If not I might have to sticky finger a catalog from someone else.

Yesterday Dad appeared at the door with the cutest little box.  Inside were these adorable lily pad earrings handmade by Mom.  Later today he arrived with a second pair in different colors. Mom's know how to bring on a smile.

My ears are celebrating a Birthday too.  They are beginning to show signs of wear just like the rest of me.

Did you recognize the Anthro Gift Card Holder?  Heidi and Christine know what brings on a smile too. There's a thumb print of Tomato Soup I accidentally left behind.

It's been raining cats and dogs for three days straight.  Heishe loves watching them fall. Ha-ha!

Orla's AW10 Collection was released last August. I was convinced I desperately needed a darling little bag that resembles the Chanel Flap in Black.  But honestly I don't wear much Black. And the Purple is gorgeous but...
See my Post HERE.

This afternoon, I booted up my Laptop to begin writing this post. I meant to open my blog link, but accidentally hit THE FIND link that is set to search Orla Kiely.  This search engine has the most comprehensive listing for Orla Kiely. Naturally, I was immediately distracted.  It wasn't long before I stumbled upon the bag in the creamy Beige color I thought was not available in the States. I was amazed to find it on sale for 50% off.

I hope Yoox doesn't disappoint me with a cancellation notice. The Quilted Patent Iris Bag in Black is OUT OF STOCK on Orla's USA site. To think I was waiting for a January sale.

Clear Bangle - Commemorative Anthro Gift from the Maryland Accessory Store - Dec 2010
I love my Anthro Gift.  It commemorates the opening of the Maryland Accessory store.  Word is a second store is expected to open in Rhode Island Spring 2011. What do all the words on the Bracelet mean?  It's like a Thesaurus of words for accessory.  Did you ever see the first Anthro video where the model is trying on shoes as they parade past?  At the end of the video all the shoes are given those names in the credits.

This bracelet is so uniquely Anthropologie!

No Anthro Zone Review: Honor Guard Booties by Messica - $168.

I was in love with these shoes the instant I laid eyes on them. I tried to wait for sale, but Jaynaloos online Anthro review and disappearing sizes hurried this order along. The brand is Messeca. New to me and to Anthro I believe.

SIZE: I wear between an 8 and 8.5. I wanted them to fit on the larger size so I ordered 8.5 to accommodate heavy socks.

FIT: A tad big. But so super comfortable that I don't mind. So I am calling these TTS. My heel does not slip up and down in back when walking.

DETAILS: The military like hardware is so unique that I had to add these to my shoe collection. Will look great with pants and skirts. All those straps open with snaps. Which seems like too many snaps to go wrong when the shoe itself slips on and there is no way to adjust the straps anyway.

PROBLEM: After wearing these awesome, comfortable shoes for a few hours, one of the straps pops open while I'm walking. Naturally I had decided these were comfortable and I was keeping them, so I had already broke them in outside. Once it came open it would not stay snapped shut. That's when I take a closer look to find the base snap is stuck to the top snap and had completely come off the shoe. So I pressed it back in with jewelry pliers and it seems to be secure.

LEATHER: Love the color. Looks a little darker than the online image. There were a few scuff marks on mine right out of the box. The scuffs don't want to buff out. The edge of the shoe is painted like white-wash.  Problem is the paint stops before the heel on both sides, both shoes. Kind of strange. You can see this in my photo below and the online product image. The 3.75 inch heel is the maximum I am able to negotiate without toppling face first.

NOTE: Despite the snap and paint issues, these are keepers just for their unique design. Recommended 5 stars. Just be aware that the snaps might pose a future problem as snaps often do. Watch that you don't scuff them. Use leather protector regularly.

Pebbled and Primped, Orla, and a recent Anthro Pop Back from December 2008! What?

I was browsing online catalogs looking for the name of an item I have.  I found it in the December 2008 catalog.  The item is the Caped Cardigan by Moth in Navy.  Lo and behold, there just happened to be a Caped Cardi in size small in Purple available in the old catalog.

Sorry, I know that's a lot of stuff to list.  But there are some who appreciate the details.

So I ordered the Caped Cardi fully expecting  to receive a cancellation notice.  Yeah!  It shipped.  Here I am wearing it.  My Navy version is so well loved it’s getting worn looking.

There was also a Navy in size Small HERE.  But when I checked today it was gone. Just like that!

The Ethereal Henley I'm wearing is almost 2 years old. I have never worn it before today.  I had to dig this one out of the back of the spare closet.  I just don’t own long sleeve tops.  But I needed sleeves to keep me warm, since the cape won’t work under a jacket.

Who got a clear bangle with every way to say accessory etched on the inside?  It’s actually a commemorative piece for the new Anthro Accessory Store in Maryland.  I’m just curious if it was Anthro Card Holders who got this gift.  Both Heidi and Christine are card holders, but haven’t yet received the bangle.  It’s super comfortable.  I definitely love it and plan to wear mine tomorrow.

The words on the Bangle actually come from an Anthro website video a few months ago. In the video a model is trying on shoes as they parade past. The stars of the show (the shoes) are given all these names in the video credits.  Mandy named her new Blog “Bobs and Doodads.”  She chose the name from the video credits.  Mandy was overjoyed when she found her blog name is listed on the Anthro Bangle.  I was amazed at her creative choice.

I'm sporting the Pebbled and Primped boots again.  I love them with Athleta’s Sherpa Skirt.  They are both the perfect Olive Green in color.  Although these boots can turn Chameleon on you in any given time.  Black, Grey, and Brown also go very well.   Anthro’s Floral Spray Tights had been stuffed in my overflowing drawer full of tights as yet to be worn.  I was happy to pull them out today and put them to good use.

I can't wait until after tomorrow.  I am on vacation for an entire blissful week plus one extra day.

Here are a few things I plan to do: Blog, Blog, Blog, and Shop, Shop, Shop. Celebrate my Birthday!  Go to lunch at Seven Oaks Country Club on my Birthday with my Team from work.  Enjoy Christmas! Visit the FAMILY!

Here are a few things I am not planning to do: Step foot into the office, and clean house.

Anyone else taking time off from work? Raise your hand and scream YES!
Can't here you.  Still can't here you.  Ha-ha!

Mary Horowitz and an Autumn Leaf! TGIFO Better Late Than Never!

Let's step back to last Friday. It's been awhile since I've posted a Thank Goodness it's Friday Outfit. TGIFO!

Tie Dye Buddha T Shirt - by Lucky Brand - Macy's - 2007
Melody Mini Skirt - Athleta $39 - Nov 2009
Mullion Tights in Brown - by Eloise - Anthro Orig $18 Sale $10 - Jan 2010
Berry Stitched Boots - by Lucky Penny - Anthro Orig $248 Sale $130 - Nov 2010
The paintings you see in my Great Room were painted by my Grandmother Cooper, who continued to paint until the day she passed away in 2004. Within days my Grandfather declared he could not continue without his Ena and died the next day on Veterans Day. He was a Navy Veteran. They were both in their 90's.  My Mother's house looks like a small museum filled with my Grandmothers art.

I found this colorful specimen in the carpet of leaves covering the back yard last Thursday evening.  It was the only leaf that had these brilliant Pinks.  I immediately thought of my Berry Stitched Boots. I felt a re-mix coming on.
See me wearing Anthro's Berry Stitched Boots by Lucky Penny HERE, and HERE.

Shop the Berry Stitched Boots in Pop Backs HERE.  Be patient and check back often.  These will be popping back to this page until the September Catalog is overwritten by January.

I started from the ground up on this closet re-mix.  The Mullion Tights jumped out at me as soon as I opened the drawer. The rest was a no brainer.

Shop the Melody Mini in Grey and Black on sale HERE. Not all that mini on me.  It has a wide stretch waist band. I can pull this mini down to my hips to increase the length or up to my waist if I want it shorter.

As I was driving to work this morning, I was hit by a sudden image of me in that outfit last Friday.  Remember ditsy crossword puzzle constructor Mary Horowitz (played by Sandra Bullock) in "All About Steve?"  I just recently saw the movie.

My outfit very closely resembles hers.  Right down to Mary's famous Red boots. But no possible umbrella that could be used as a weapon to possibly attack Steve. She never meant him any harm.

My boots aren't nearly as Red.

It's possible I'm just as goofy as Mary Horowitz. But not nearly as smart.  Amazing how she figured out how to get out of that old mine shaft. One thing I have that Mary doesn't is Orla Kiely's Tripp Laptop Bag in her famous Car Print.  I often carry it as a handbag, since my Laptop rarely leaves the house.

Shop the Tripp Laptop Bag just like mine HERE, and HERE, and in Stem Print HERE.

Athleta's luxe sweaters won't stretch out of shape. Don't pill.  Are made of hand washable cotton.  And they always have a gorgeous new version in several colors every year. Heidi and I both love them.

These Anthro Glittens were a gift from Christine last year.  Anthro still had these last week in a colorful assortment.  I couldn't believe they were gone when I checked for a link this morning.  I love that I can use my iPhone and not have to pull my gloves off.

 No Anthro Zone Reviews:

The Brass Band Sweater - Brand Unknown - Anthro $118

Brass Band Sweater - Brand Unknown - Anthro $118 - Dec 2010

Let's start with a review, since I haven't posted one in ages.  Everything I have ordered lately has gone out of stock before I received my order.  This particular item is one of theanthropologieconnoissuer's picks for the Perthshire Dress.  See her post and outfit suggestions HERE.

The details alone make this a great LBS (little black sweater).

SIZE: I ordered my normal size Small for Sweaters and Cardi's. I'm 5' 5.5" tall, 125 lbs, narrow across shoulders, slightly shorter than average arms.

Brass Band Sweater - Brand Unknown - Anthro $118 - Dec 2010

FIT: TTS to slightly big. I love how this sweater fits. It's flattering in all directions. The sleeves aren't tight or too long. The waistline comes in a little on the high side, so may not work for those over 5'7". It reminds me of a Tuxedo Jacket. What you don't see in the Product Image is the tie belt. There are also belt loops. I have another belt in transit to belt over the Sweater.

Brass Band Sweater - Brand Unknown - Anthro $118 - Dec 2010

I didn't capture the most flattering angle with this profile image.

DETAILS: There are two front hooks. The Product Image appears to have only one hook. The collar lays flat. The buttons look like metal, but are plastic. So they don't droop with too much weight. The front placket is actually folded over, and Hallelujah for pockets. I love the open neckline for showing off a fab dress or necklace. Extra thread and button included.

FABRIC: 100% Wool. Hand Wash. Very Soft. No itch at all. I don't think it will pill. I wore the sweater over a dress outside with no coat in the 50's and was warm.

Note: The tag on this sweater is a whopping 3.5 x 8.5", with an Oriental scene. It's not familiar to me. I will remove it since one side was already off. There is not a Brand, Designer or Label name anywhere on it. I called CS and was told that the spec sheet contained no designer name. The sweater is made in China.

I recommend this sweater with 5 stars. However some reviews claimed that the bottom of the sweater added bulk. I didn't have an issue with this.

Graphic Rose Tights - by Anna Sui - Anthro $20

Graphic Rose Tights - by Anna Sui - Anthro $20 - Dec 2010

Hurry and grab a pair of these awesome tights.  They fit TTS.  And the price is fantastic for Anna Sui.  Just a hint of leg shows through, making the Rose pattern a stand out in a crowd of otherwise ordinary Black Opaque Tights.

I did notice the upper leg a bit tight when I first put them on, but that disappeared almost immediately.  I wore mine all night to my Company Christmas Party.  They held up well.

Odd that the instructions say Machine Wash.  I toss all my tights in a Delicate Wash Bag and throw them in the Washing Machine on Gentle Cycle and hang dry.  They hold up for years.

My Company Holiday Party was held at the "Buck Owens Crystal Palace."  A change of venue from the last 5 years at the much preferred Petroleum Club. Despite having lived in Bakersfield, CA for most of my life, I'm not a fan of Country Western, the famous Bakersfield Sound, Buck and Bonnie Owens, or Merle Haggard.  Believe it or not, my BF was dry when he took these slightly blurry images.  Not so much as one drink. Yet!

Here I am!  All gussied up and Anthro'd out...
(gussied up - dressing in one’s finery for some special occasion. It is usually considered to be an American expression, dating from the late 1930's)

Standing in the street under the famous Bakersfield Arch.  OK it's a hideous Neon Sign on an old foot bridge.  It used to be located on old FRW 99 downtown. Buck Owens (died Mar 25, 2006) bought the sign and had it moved when he built the Palace and his KUZZ studios directly next door.

Yeehaa!
(yeehaa - exclamation of abandonment when commencing some exciting activity; 2. used ironically to denote that one is not excited (originally US; the exultant cry of the US cowboy)

I'm about to be rounded up and sent to the Old Hoosegow!
(hoosegow: "jail," 1911, western U.S., from mispronunciation of Mex.Sp. juzgao "tribunal, court")
